Ruth Borg

Lover’s Manifesto

In “Lover’s Manifesto” ILSNA is researching how we can exist as lovers outside the constraints of dominant religious and cultural narratives. She began to question her own belief systems surrounding love, after experiencing parents and people in partnership around her (including herself) bound to laws of love that are smothering instead of nourishing. Who holds power over our practice of love? She will be exploring, word by word, her own truth as a lover, writing her own personal ‘scriptures’, re-imagining new psalms of love.

This residency is another step in the creation of the performance Lover's Manifesto which will premiére on the 13 December at Zaal3 this year.

Ruth Borg (1994, Malta) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Amsterdam. She works in theatre, performance and film as a performer, maker, writer, vocalist, and facilitator. Ruth creates work and spaces that may allow us to remember power, liberation and joy where they have been buried by the hands of over-domestication and domination of all sorts. She uses her body, voice and connections with others to make works that feed the world where it is starved. In 2015 she graduated with a B.A (Hons) in Theater Studies from the University of Malta and two years ago she graduated with a B.A in Mime from the University of Arts in Amsterdam. She has performed locally and around Europe with various collectives, companies and her own work too.

Lover’s Manifesto is her first project under the name ILSNA (tongues in Maltese), name she will be working under for her vocal and music endeavours.

Erik van de Wijdeven

Incubate

After having studied both design and theatre, Erik van de Wijdeven’s practice alternates between performing, making, and scenography/light design. His works are characterised by his fascination for creating abstract, minimalistic installations and atmospheres which enhance the expression and perception of the human presence. Ideally, they result in the creation of physical and textual pieces with a distinct visual signature, portraying a relentless curiosity towards the mysteries and complexities of being in a body.

Incubate is an intimate, biographical installation-performance about how the body copes with traumatic memory. A poignant and visceral journey along the remnants and imprints of a traumatic birth, as a plea for physical embodiment and healing.

Concept, space, performance: Erik van de Wijdeven

Advice: Fabián Santarciel de la Quintana & Rob Smorenberg

Thommy Kraft (GE)

works as a visual theatermaker, mover and puppeteer in the Netherlands.

Their artistic background is located in Visual Theatre and Puppetry as well as in Mime.

Within their work, Thommy is constantly searching to combine elements of visual and physical theatre to create hybrid forms that consist of moving bodies and animated material.

At this moment, their primary interest is centred around themes of queer identity, community building and physical intimacy, as well as their personal relationship to masculinity.

Can Bora (TR)

is a performance and visual artist with a background in somatics, contemporary dance, and theatrical studies. His latest work, "Henna Night: Unveiling the Spectrum of Self," was performed at Podium Mozaiek and will continue to be performed throughout the 2025 season. His visual works have been exhibited at NDSM Treehouse and Grey Space.

Can Bora's work delves into the nature of connectivity, exploring the intimate bond with oneself and the complex web of relationships with others. Through his art, he aims to create spaces where individuals can reclaim agency, liberate themselves from oppressive structures, and establish sensory-based relationships with their healthier body-ego.

Domenik Naue

rust and shame

Departing from gymnastics as a physical language, Domenik’s research will reflect on the hardness of this physical code. In this process, Domenik is interested in channelling and transforming the energies that emerge through the re-embodiment of these forms and shapes. In an attempt to dream up alternative versions of ourselves in which the repercussions of our experiences don’t hinder us but drive us Domenik is reflecting on personal experiences of abuse in the context of gymnastics and growing up queer.

Domenik Naue grew up in Weimar, Germany. He is a transdisciplinary artist based in The Netherlands. At the age of 15 he began to create theater performances at a youth theatre in collaboration with his friends. He has a physical background in gymnastics and circus.

He studied dance at Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln before completing his BA studies in dance and choreography at ArtEZ in 2022.

Domenik writes music* and poetry which occur in his pieces, and has been participating in several choreographic works as a dancer and co-creator. Since 2019 he is working in close collaboration with Ashley Ho, together they create performances as ashleyho+domeniknaue.

Ocean in me

They say that the water is coming. So I looked it up. If the dikes break, my house (in this street, in this city, in this country under sea level) will be three meters underwater.

I need to build an arc.

But how to do that, when I am just a drop in this ocean called life?

Ocean in me is a research on how to see the performance itself as an arc. To move us out of a place of avoidance/ overwhelm/ drowning, into a place of connected presence. To unpeel the layers of the complex into a place of playful wonder. Letting myths, music and poetry come with new possible answers.

Text, music, movement, performance: Leela May Stokholm

Advice: Anne van Dorp

Music advice: Channah van t Riet & Brechtje van Dijk

Text advice: Chris Lomans & Marieke Polderdijk

Thanks to an ocean of people who have supported, helped, inspired and became part of this journey!

Tijdje

Time is Movement.

Without movement time can not exist.

If the planets would stop revolving around the Sun and the Earth would seize to rotate, time would come to a halt.

So, if movement dictates time: How can I as a performer move and manipulate time?
